Behind him burns the black sun, layered with the blazing fire of the visible sun, and above soars the solar bird,  the eternal phoenix, whose flight marks renewal and immortality. Upon Samael’s head a crown of flaming serpents glows, marking him as consort and counterpart, the solar force that meets Lilith in balance.
