THE UNBOUND SELF: Seven Lilithian Tarot Questions for Reclamation & Becoming

THE UNBOUND SELF

Seven Lilithian Tarot Questions for Reclamation & Becoming

There are thresholds in life that do not announce themselves.

There is no ceremony marking the moment when the person you have been can no longer contain the person you are becoming. No great sign appears declaring that an old identity has reached its end. More often, the threshold reveals itself through restlessness, dissatisfaction, resistance, or the growing realization that something which once belonged to you no longer does.

A relationship. A belief. A role. A pattern. An obligation. An identity.

Sometimes even an entire life.

These are the spaces in which Tarot becomes something far greater than a tool for asking what will happen next.

Within the Lilithian current, Tarot can become an instrument of reclamation: a mirror held before the sovereign Self, revealing not only what lies hidden within the shadow, but what is struggling to emerge from it.

The question is no longer simply:

What does the future hold?

The question becomes:

Who am I becoming, and what must I be willing to leave behind in order to become Them?

This seven-card Lilithian Tarot spread was created for precisely that threshold.

It is called The Unbound Self.

The Unbound Self Tarot Spread

Lay seven cards in a formation of your choice, moving from what has already been outgrown toward what is now becoming.

The movement of the spread is intentional.

You begin with the structures surrounding the old Self and gradually ascend through Truth, Binding, Power, and Release until arriving at Becoming.

Card One — OUTGROWN

What part of me have I already outgrown, but continue to carry?

We often remain loyal to identities long after they have ceased to serve us.

Perhaps you learned to be agreeable because disagreement once carried consequences. Perhaps you became the caretaker, the peacemaker, the obedient daughter, the endlessly understanding partner, the one who needed nothing, or the one who survived by becoming whatever others required.

These identities may once have protected you.

That does not mean they deserve permanent residence within you.

This card reveals something whose purpose may already be complete.

Do not immediately ask whether it was good or bad.

Ask instead:

Does this still belong to me?

Card Two — PERMISSION

Where am I still waiting for permission to become who I already know I am?

Permission is one of the most subtle chains.

We wait for approval from family, lovers, teachers, society, tradition, religion, community, or some imagined authority whose blessing we believe will finally make our desires legitimate.

But sovereignty cannot be granted.

The moment another person possesses the authority to give you permission to become yourself, they also possess the authority to withhold it.

This card reveals where you may still be standing before a gate that was never locked.

Card Three — TRUTH

What truth have I been minimizing because acting upon it would require change?

There are truths we do not deny outright.

Instead, we make them smaller.

We rationalize them. Explain them away. Tell ourselves that things are not that bad, that we should be grateful, that perhaps we are expecting too much, or that eventually something will change without requiring anything difficult from us.

But recognition carries responsibility.

Once something has been truly seen, continuing to pretend otherwise becomes an act of self-betrayal.

This card asks you to look directly at what you already know.

Card Four — BINDING

What am I protecting that is actually keeping me bound?

Not every prison looks like a prison.

Sometimes we fiercely defend the very structures that prevent our liberation because they offer familiarity, belonging, security, identity, or the illusion of certainty.

We protect relationships because we have invested years in them.

We protect beliefs because abandoning them would require admitting that we have changed.

We protect circumstances because the unknown appears more frightening than the unhappiness we already understand.

This card reveals the chain you may have mistaken for an anchor.

Card Five — POWER

What power have I mistaken for a flaw within myself?

Many of the qualities we were taught to suppress contain enormous power.

Intensity becomes passion.

Stubbornness becomes persistence.

Anger becomes the recognition that a boundary has been violated.

Defiance becomes sovereignty.

Desire becomes direction.

The parts of ourselves others find inconvenient are not automatically defects requiring correction.

Within Lilithian spirituality, this distinction is particularly important. Lilith does not teach us to make ourselves smaller so that we may become easier to accept. Her current confronts us with the parts of the Self that were exiled, condemned, shamed, or silenced and asks what might happen if we ceased treating them as enemies.

This card asks:

What if the thing I have been trying to remove from myself contains part of my power?

Card Six — RELEASE

What would change if I stopped negotiating with the life I no longer want?

There comes a point when endless negotiation becomes another form of avoidance.

We bargain with circumstances.

We bargain with ourselves.

Perhaps if this changes…

Perhaps if they change…

Perhaps if I endure a little longer…

Release does not always mean immediate destruction or abandonment. Tarot should not make our decisions for us.

But this card asks us to examine what becomes possible when we stop constructing our future around preserving something we already know we have surpassed.

Release creates space.

And space is where Becoming begins.

Card Seven — BECOMING

What is the next version of me asking me to do right now?

This is the summit of the spread.

But Becoming is not merely a destination waiting somewhere in the future.

Becoming is an act.

The Self is shaped through choice, Will, experience, confrontation, desire, destruction, creation, and embodiment.

Therefore, this final card should not be interpreted only as a description of who you might someday become.

Ask what She requires from you now.

A boundary?

A decision?

A beginning?

An ending?

A declaration?

A risk?

A refusal?

An act of creation?

The future Self is not summoned through longing alone.

She is constructed through the choices of the present Self.

Reading the Spread as a Path of Initiation

Once all seven cards have been revealed, resist the temptation to interpret each one in isolation.

Look at the spread as a movement.

OUTGROWN reveals what has already begun to die.

PERMISSION reveals where authority has been surrendered.

TRUTH reveals what can no longer remain unseen.

BINDING reveals what maintains the old structure.

POWER reveals what can be reclaimed.

RELEASE reveals what creates space.

And BECOMING reveals the next act of Will.

Together, the seven cards form a path from recognition to reclamation.

You may also notice repetitions throughout the reading. The same suit may dominate. Several Major Arcana may appear. Particular symbols, figures, elements, directions, or themes may echo from one card into another.

Pay attention to these patterns.

Sometimes the most important message of a Tarot spread exists not within a single card, but within the conversation taking place between them.

Tarot Is Not the Authority. You Are.

The Lilithian Tarot reveals far more than what may happen.

It reaches into the deepest layers of the Self, revealing shadow, power, possibility, and the paths that lead toward your Highest Becoming.

But Tarot should never replace sovereignty.

The cards may reveal a pattern.

They may expose a wound.

They may illuminate a possibility.

They may show you where power has been abandoned and where it waits to be reclaimed.

They may reveal the portals of power.

You choose which ones you enter.

You decide with what you will align and become.

That distinction lies at the heart of Lilithian Tarot.

Divination does not exist to reduce the practitioner to a passive observer awaiting whatever fate has prepared.

It can instead become an act of confrontation with possibility.

The cards reveal.

The Witch chooses.

And through choice, Will, and embodiment, the Witch becomes.

So the next time you find yourself standing between who you were and who you are becoming, lay these seven cards before you.

You do not ask them to decide your future.

Ask them to reveal what you need to see clearly enough to decide it for yourself.
